The Roborock S4 vs S6: What are the differences? Who is the Roborock S6 and S4 for? If you don't have thick carpets and do not necessarily need mopping but still want a robot that will cost less than $400 and have the bells premium robots have, go with the Roborock S4. The S4 is also great for pet owners because of its big dustbin. If you have carpets (thin and medium-pile), some areas to mop, want a robot that will not disturb you while vacuuming or mopping, and overall a great machine with high-end features, go with the Roborock S6. Buying one of the company’s models is going to give a great cleaning, easy to use experience that doesn’t cost the earth. But there are still some things to consider, and a few different choices to mull over. So, we’ve got both the S6 and S4 in to show what the difference is between them, to help you decide what you need and what you don’t, and see if one fits you better than the other. The Roborock S4 vs S6: What are the differences? The Roborock S6 is the top of the line of Roborock product range while the Roborock S4 is a cheaper model for those who do not need mopping but still want to buy a smart device with premium features. The new S4 has a bigger dustbin of 640 ml compared to a 480 ml container of the Roborock S6. The S4 is better for pet owners because it can hold more debris. Each container contains a HEPA filter that can be washed with water. The filter is interchangeable, you can use the S4 filter for the S6 and vice-versa. The S6 has a cleaning tool under the lid while the S4 tool should be stored separately. Each Roborock is equipped with a cleaning brush that has detachable side tips that are easier to clean from hair which you can see by the end of the video. The roller also fits into each model. The main difference between the S6 and S4 would be mopping. The Roborock S6 has two types of mopping pads (microfiber cloth and disposable wipes) and a water container for mopping. The container also has a toggle to switch the level of water dripping depending on your needs. The container attaches by one simple slide until it clicks. Very convenient to use. Please note, the mopping feature is not able to remove stains but is a nice feature to have, it ensures light mopping when your floors need to. Another thing to consider is the ability to cross obstacles. The Roborock S4 crossing ability is 25 mm (0.6 in) while the S6 can do a 20 mm (0.8 in) thresholds which means the S4 has some issues with thicker carpets where the S6 does not have any. As you can see the Roborock S4 struggles to move on the grey carpet which is 17 mm (0.7 in) thick and the Roborock S6 has no issues at all. Keep that in mind if you have thick carpets. However, on a thin carpet, both do a superb job. Both robots successfully passed our 15 mm (0.6 in) plank test. The Roborock S4 is a bit louder than the S6 on both balanced and max modes. Overall, the S6 is easier to the ears. Roborock is known for its good pickup ability which you can see on the carpet test. We scattered oats on the thin carpet and let both run on balanced mode. Note, the Roborock S4 does not have carpet boost, it doesn't increase suction when it recognizes carpets. The Roborock S6 has carpet boost which you can turn off in the app. Both models support the Mi Home and Roborock app by the way. You can also see how good both Roborocks handle obstacles on its way, these are one of the best robot cleaners on the market at navigating, they are perfect for homes with a complex layout. Roborock is claimed to be tangle-free and these robots are one of the best at hair collecting when others have more hair clogged around the brush by the end of cleaning. Thanks to the cleaning tool with a razor, the roller is easy to clean. Hair also gets tangled around the edges so you can remove them to clean there too. Easy to use! With the new ReactiveAI technology for obstacle detection AI, and front facing cameras, the S6 MaxV is arguably the best navigating robot vacuum on the market. Roborock S6 The Roborock S6 is the most advanced robot Roborock makes. In our tests, cleaning performance was pretty good at an 89%, but it did seem to struggle more than we would have expected on carpets. Compared to other Roborock models, it has more advanced navigational features and specific room cleaning. It also has the ability to mop, runs for 150 minutes, and is only 67 dB loud (in balanced mode). Roborock S5 The Roborock S5 is a slightly stripped down version of the S6 and S5 Max, while still maintaining all of the essential features. In our tests, the S5 scored the same as the S5 Max, a 91% overall. The S5 was slightly better on low pile carpet and slightly worse on high pile, compared to the S5 Max. The Roborock S5 has a less advanced navigation and doesn’t have room by room cleaning. In addition, it’s slightly louder than the S6 and S5 Max. However, beyond that it’s similar to Roborock’s other flagship models. It has the same run time, suction, dust bin, battery, and square foot coverage as the Roborock S6. Roborock S5 Max The Roborock S5 Max is a 2-in-1 robot vacuum mop combo unit that prioritizes mopping performance. In our tests its cleaning performance was similar to what we saw on the S6, scoring a 91% overall. Like the S6, its greatest struggle was fine debris on carpet. The S5 Max has most of the same features as the S6, however, it’s louder and has a slightly smaller dust bin. In exchange for that, you get a water tank that’s more than double the size at 290 ml. The larger water reservoir allows the S5 Max to mop huge areas, while still functioning as a more than capable robot vacuum cleaner. Roborock S4 The Roborock S4 is a more basic version of the S6. Notably, the S4 does not have a mopping attachment, so it’s a vacuum only. However, that is the primary feature you give up by going with the S4. It was amazingly good in our cleaning tests, scoring a 96% overall. Its high carpet cleaning score was particularly impressive, scoring a 97%. The S4 has the same run time, battery, suction, and square footage coverage as the S6. Roborock E35 The Roborock E35 is part of Roborock’s older and more basic models. Its navigation is simpler, no laser navigation, no map memory, and it uses the more typical bump-and-continue style of cleaning. It still includes the mopping attachment and has the same suction and run time compared to the S6. In our cleaning tests it scored a solid 92% overall. Even though it’s a few years old, it’s a solid robot at a reasonable price point. Roborock E25 The Roborock E25 is the simplest robot that Roborock builds. Cleaning performance was still good. In our tests it scored an 89% overall, with high pile carpet being the worse. It uses a smaller battery and therefore has a shorter 100 minute run time. In addition, the battery only allows it to cover 1,500 square feet. For most users, we think it’s worth spending the extra to get the E35. Nevertheless, the E25 is still a solid robot. If you own an older Roborock, the new brush is backward compatible so it's easy to upgrade. All options retain the same round shape as with all Roborock robots. The design underneath also remains similar - with the single side brush and main brush at the middle. Of the four, the Roborock S5 Max is the best overall when it comes to cleaning performance - getting the best results in surface and deep cleaning tests. The E4 had the worst results - partly due to the lack of passes. It only goes over the areas twice at most. To summarize, all these robots bring something unique to the table. The E4 is one of the least expensive options with a smart navigating algorithm and advanced scheduling only found in more expensive robot vacuums. The S5 Max is my favorite of the four since it isn't expensive and cleans the best. It doesn't have the bells-and-whistles of the S6 MaxV, but you'll easily save a few hundred bucks. The S6 Pure is a great option if you don't need the mopping functionality. It cleans almost as well as the S5 Max with surface dirt but lags in deep cleaning. Finally, S6 MaxV is the best when it comes to obstacle avoidance. The latest firmware update enables users to see what the robot sees just in case they want to check the area it is cleaning without going inside. However, the obstacle avoidance feature isn't perfect and there are blind spots. The Roborock S5, S6, and 360 S6 are the intelligent robot vacuums with lidar based mapping technology. The lidar scans a cleaning area to build an accurate map of the interior. When the cleaner is done mapping, it creates the most efficient way of cleaning and navigates back-and-forth in straight lines. This pattern is efficient; the robot vacuum does not spend more time on cleaning the same areas twice and does not leave untouched zoned. As you see on the video, firstly the robot cleans a perimeter, then goes to clean inside. For the cleaning test on carpet, we scattered 111 grams of debris: oats, beans, rice, and wheat bran. The Roborock S5 and S6 seemed to handle the fine debris a little bit better than the 360 S6 since they have more suction (2,000 Pa vs. 1,800 Pa). However, all the models picked up 109 grams of particles in the end. The 360 S6 has spent more time to clean the same area than both of the Roboborock cleaners. I been using the Roborock S4 Max for about a month and here what I think so far. The S4 Max is a good overall cleaner, the navigation is really good and I found the cleaning ability is good as well. The biggest downside is the lack of a mopping system. There some additional features that the S4 Max is missing as well. The S4 Max and S5 Max are excellent robot vacuums capable of navigating efficiently around your home, while picking up debris at a high rate. The S5 Max is slightly better with the deep cleaning test, while the S4 Max was better with sand, but only by a little. There isn't much of a difference with the overall cleaning scores. The eye-test confirms these scores as both robots have excellent usable power even at the lowest power setting, so you don't have to deal with noise. Each has a carpet boost feature so you don't have to micromanage and continually adjust power settings with every transition. One significant difference between the two is the ability of the S5 Max to mop and do it well. The S4 Max doesn't have this feature and is one reason why Roborock was able to bring the price down to mid-level options. It's one of the best value for money alternatives for robot vacuums.
