This is a video from my Inkscape Master Class where I go over how cloned objects work in Inkscape. Creating clones may seem similar to duplicating or copying objects, but there's a difference. Cloned objects are linked to the original object, so whatever you do to the original object will also be applied to all of the other objects. This is can get really interesting if you let your creativity get carried away. Tiled clones in Inkscape give you a huge range of creative possibilities, allowing you to cover an area with a repeating pattern, create mosaics from images, make halftone effects, produce logarithmic spirals, place objects evenly around a circle and more. So taking a little time to understand exactly what the Symmetry, Shift, Scale, Rotation, Blur & Opacity, Colour and Trace tabs are for and how to use them is time well spent. I take a look at each tab in turn and demonstrate how to use them, combining the different functions to produce the effects you want to achieve. There was a lot to cover in this video so I’ve split it into 2 parts, in Part 1, I cover the Symmetry, Shift, Scale and Rotation tabs. Blur & Opacity, Colour and Trace will be covered in Part 2. But don't panic, there are a lot of tabs but most work in a similar fashion, once you understand one the rest will be easy. In this quick video I show you how it's possible to colour your holiday clones using Inkscape. This isn't a new feature, but it's not used by very many people yet because it's a little bit undiscoverable. This version shown here is Inkscape 1.2 (dev) but this will work on any inkscape version. If you're using a very old inkscape version you can use the XML editor to edit the style instead of Selectors and CSS.
