Па́тмос — небольшой остров, представляющий собой скалу с отвесными стенами на реке Катунь, Чемальский район, республика Алтай. Расположен на окраине села Чемал. Недалеко от острова располагается точка слияния рек Катунь и Чемал. Своим названием остров обязан небольшому греческому острову Патмос. Остров был освящен в 1855 году, а в дальнейшем на нем был построен храм. Остров посещал митрополит Макарий. В 1920-е годы храм был уничтожен, а в 2000 году построен заново как храм апостола Иоанна Богослова. В 2001 году передан Барнаульскому Знаменскому женскому монастырю. В настоящее время там проводятся службы, остров может посетить любой желающий. PATMOS - GREECE (JULY 2022 ) Patmos - a beautiful small island of the Dodecanese complex. It is among the most popular Christian places in Greece. It is called "Aegean Jerusalem" because of the cave where St. John has revelation about the end of the world. The sacred cave is located between the small town of Skala and the capital of Chora. Masses are held in the cave every day. Chora is a very picturesque town, with beautiful white streets, with a lot of chapels, which we like to get to know so much. On the hill of Chora there is a large monastery of St. John, which is definitely a must-see. On Patmos we found beautiful beaches, amazing sunsets and sunrises, ancient monasteries and nice people. The Cave of the Apocalypse is situated about halfway up the mountain on the Aegean island of Patmos, along the road between the villages of Chora and Skala. This grotto is believed to mark the spot where John of Patmos received his visions that he recorded in the Book of Revelation. In 1999, UNESCO declared the cave a joint World Heritage Site together with the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian. We’re in Patmos! A relatively undiscovered island in the Dodecanese Islands of Greece. There is no airport in Patmos so you have to come here by boat, making it feel quieter and more untouched. We start things off at one of the highest points on the island with amazing views, the capital of Patmos called Chora. Chora is a small town with the Monastery of St. John at the very top. We spend some time exploring the cute town and also get some lunch. Patmos is very famous for being a Christian Pilgrimage site, it contains the Cave of the Revelation where John of Patmos was thought to have written the Book of Revelations (the last book of the Bible). After this we head to a small beach town in Patmos called Grikos. We spend some time here just lounging on the beach. Later we head make to one of the main areas of Patmos called Skala. This is likely where you’ll stay if you come to the island, it’s where the ferries arrive to and also where the majority of restaurants are. ABOUT PATMOS Patmos, an Aegean island in the north of Greece’s Dodecanese island group, is a significant Christian pilgrimage site. Its Cave of the Apocalypse is where John of Patmos (St. John the Theologian) is said to have written the Book of Revelations. Patmos is a lovely Greek island in the Aegean Sea. It is famous as the location where John of Patmos received the visions found in the Book of Revelation of the New Testament - and where that book was written. Patmos is one of the northernmost islands of the Dodecanese complex. The population is only 2,998. Patmos features some amazing tourist sites. You will see the top 5 in this video.
